The Marine Layer Henley Rule
Years ago, Marine Layer made the best henley I've ever worn. Beautifully well-fitting, extremely soft and resiliant: most of those I bought back then are still in pretty good shape after hundreds of trips through the machines.
They became effectively the only thing I wore. It was my "Steve Jobs" look.
At some point I strongly & seriously considered buying a large batch of exactly the same shirt to be sure that I'd have sufficient supply for many years.
I didn't though and sure enough a couple years later they started tweaking the design. Inferior fabric was introduced, then elastic around the wrists and collars (ugh!). In short order, they'd destroyed everything that made the shirt so good.
Also in short order I regretted not comitting to the bulk order I'd considered all those years ago and I still regret it to this day.
Thus was born the "Marine Layer Henley" rule: if you find a product that is perfect to you, do not hesitate to acquire as many copies as you can reasonably afford. The only constant is change after all, and it will change eventually and you will lament the change.
So, yeah... I did just spend hundreds of dollars on many copies of exactly the same ball cap. But with damn good reason: the Marine Layer Henley Rule.
